Camsell Medal

How to nominate

The Awards Committee, as sole judge of nominations, shall consider the nominations submitted each year. Up to two Awards may be granted each year, provided that there are not more than forty living recipients at any given time. However, the Committee is not bound to grant the Award in any given year.

Individuals may be nominated for the Award by any person who is currently serving, or has served, in any of the following roles: Officer or Governor of the Society, member of a Society committee or Executive Director. A letter of nomination is to be accompanied by a rationale — of not more than 500 words — that includes a description of the significance of the nominee's contribution to the Society in any capacity, including details of service to the following committees: Board of Governors, Audit, Geographic Education, Awards, Lectures Committee, Editorial Advisory, Merchandise, Executive, Nominating, Expeditions, Policy & Planning, Fellows, Research Grants, Finance, and various ad hoc committees or special events.

In recognizing outstanding service to the Society, the Camsell Medal is distinct from the Massey Medal and Gold Medal which salute professional service to geography. Therefore, receipt of either of these honours does not preclude consideration for the Camsell Medal.

Nominations will stand for a period of three years after which time they shall be deemed to have expired. Nominees may be re-nominated once after the expiration of their first nomination. All nominations shall be kept confidential.

Deadline for nominations is March 15.

Nominations should be addressed to:

Suite 200, 1155 Lola Street
Ottawa (Ontario)
K1K 4C1
